Bay fishing tournament event. April 6, 2013
Five eager anglers meet up at Tiki Island at 6AM to discuss the prospects of the area. The decisions were made and we decided to fish west Galveston bay. We put in at 8 mile road; all loaded our kayaks and ready to venture out into the bay. There was a SE wind around 15 knots so that made it a little challenging. We all spread out in different directions; some of use worked the south shore line, Dear Island, and another island nearby. We all worked the oyster reefs, around the area. It was a hard grind. Daniel and Sonny paddled across nearly reaching to the other side of the bay. The paddle back to the launch area was tuff with winds at 15mph blowing directly in the direction of your destination. Seven hours of hard grinding in the wind. Out of us five anglers only one was able to produce a red drum at 21.5”.We made it back to the weigh in around 3:15pm and just missed the cut off for the weigh in. Congrats to all the winners, this was a fun event despite the challenges.
