Yesterday i was contemplating my AI , when i saw this plastic pin holding my rudder , i was like WTH is this , Man all of my previous kayaks Ive seen stainless steel pins with a safety ring , what is this ? i went online and find out this tend to fail , so is this means i should order some and keep them onboard or what ? looks like this

Yes you will need to have extras. They are designed to be the weak link should the rudder hit something. Better a $5 pin than a $200 rudder or ruined hull.
The same concept is true for the plastic pin on the aka brace.

I'm refering to the small threaded screw and bolt in the small brace that connects only to the back akas. Should be plastic unless someone changed it out.

Change your rudder pins often, they do break! This past Saturday I broke a rudder pin on open water,luckily I had a spare hanging in rear hatch. They are not easy to change either especially when your rockin and rollin.... And the key ring retainer that holds the pin in at bottom, don't even bother till your back to shore because the steering lines hold it down. I would definitely keep spares in the rear hatch along with a couple of cotter pins because u can get a cotter pin in under water very easily but key ring I had trouble with it on land...
