2013 Corpus Christi Bluewater Kayak Classic – Official Rules
1. All anglers agreeing to enter the Corpus Christi Bluewater Kayak Classic agree that Corpus Christi Bluewater Kayak Classic, Ocean Epics LLC and/or its owner/moderators and employees are no way liable for any injuries or accidents that may occur during angling or kayaking in the Corpus Christi Bluewater Kayak Classic Tournament. You are entering this and fishing in the Corpus Christi Bluewater Kayak Classic exclusively at your own risk.
2. To participate you must read and agree to the liability waiver provided at tournament check-in. No one under the age of 18 years may enter the Corpus Christi Bluewater Kayak Classic. All participants must sign and return a liability release waiver prior to participating in the event. Each release must include name, phone, address, and email (if applicable).
3. New this year we figured out how to set up refunds on Pay-Pal!!! Anyone who registers and cannot attend or attend the makeup date will be able to get a refund minus a $10.00 fee for the shirt. Refund requests must be made no later than 5 days after the tournament through info@bluewaterkayakclassic.com An entry may be sold only if the Corpus Christi Bluewater Kayak Classic staff is contacted and informed of all parties involved. It is the sole responsibility of the entrant to sell their spot and collect the agreed upon amount between the two parties. All sold entries must occur no later than 3 days prior to the start of the tournament (correspondence for sold entries must be received no later than 11:59PM CST July 26th 2013).
4. Credit card/PayPal payments will only be accepted during online registration via www.bluewaterkayakclassic.com. Online registration will end July 25th, 2013 11:59 AM CST. Participants are advised to print out a receipt of payment, email receipts and registration forms to present at check in. Participants that register for the event before July 10th 11:59PM CST will receive a free t-shirt at the tournament check-in. Participants that register from July 11th to July 25th will not receive a t-shirt during the event due to ordering constraints.
5. Late registration and weigh in will take place at Padre Balli Park located approximately 1/2 mile south of Whitecap Blvd in Corpus Christi TX. The exit is marked by a sign pointing to Bob Hall Pier and Park on the left. For more info on the park go to www.nuecesbeachparks.com
There are tent/RV sites with water and electricity and primitive camping as well for a small fee. There are no parking stickers required in and around the registration area for this event. However you may need one if you plan on parking on most parts of the beach. For more info on parking permits, you can visit the website or call (361) 949-8121 for details on parking permits, camping, etc. Angler check in will be available starting at 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm CST on Friday August 2nd, and 5:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. on Saturday August 3rd.

6. All fish must be caught on rod and reel with artificial lures, live bait or dead bait from a kayak, or hybrid sail kayak. No motorized vessels allowed. NO Bowfishing, trot lining, jug lining, or spear fishing will be permitted. All entrants and competitors agree to abide by all local and federal boating, recreational, and game laws. All participants must have a valid fishing license for the State of Texas with a valid saltwater stamp.
7. All participants must read and agree to the rules of this tournament. For safety and ethical reasons, anyone disobeying these rules will result in them being automatically disqualified from the Corpus Christi Bluewater Kayak Classic. After reading and agreeing to all rules and terms, you may enter using the “REGISTER” link in the menu above. You must be registered before July 25th, 2013 unless you register late at tournament. Late check-in will be with cash only (See rule 5 and 17).
8. The tournament will be held Saturday August 3rd, 2013 with a back up Rain Out/Wind Out date to be determined if needed. Tournament will be an “honor start” with no Kayaks in the water earlier than 6:30 AM CST. All lines must be removed from the water by 4:30PM CST. The Corpus Christi Bluewater Kayak Classic Rules or time duration may be changed without notice prior to start of the tournament. We hold the right to alter rules due to exploitation, end the tournament early or reschedule the tournament if we feel the safety of participants is at risk.
9. All Sharks must be released. All other fish have the option of being kept and harvested (pending your local game laws).
10. This is a kayak fishing tournament and ALL catches must be made from a kayak (no wading or spear fishing). Pedal drive and hybrid sail kayaks are allowed. Otherwise, no motorized mechanics for propulsion will be allowed. Mothershipping is not allowed in this tournament. You must travel over water under human power via paddling or pedaling or sailing in hybrid sail kayak.
11. The weigh-in will begin at 3:00PM CST and end at 5:30 PM CST. Anglers must be in line for weigh in no later than 5:00 PM CST. Anglers must have checked prior to tournament start in order to weigh in fish. Further, Anglers MUST CHECK IN AT WEIGH IN even if no fish are caught. We will send out search and rescue at your expense if you fail to report back to check in. Failure to check in will disqualify your catch. We do this so we know who went out and who came in.
12. Entry Fees will be $30.00 Per Person for the King Mackerel division. There will also be two $10.00 optional (winner take all) side pots for Cobia (Ling), Heaviest Reef Fish (regardless of specie, limited to the following: Red Snapper, Trigger, Spade, Triple Tail, Pompano, and Sheepshead) and Spanish Mackerel. You may not enter the side pots without entering the King Mackerel division. All Fish must be caught on Rod and Reel – no spear fishing allowed!
13. All anglers MUST FISH IN A GROUP MINIMUM OF TWO ANGLERS. Individuals without a group will be partnered with a team/group – No solos in the interest of safety. The kayak anglers in your group must also be entered in the tournament.
14. Payouts/Winnings – The king mackerel division will pay 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for a total of 2 fish combined weight. The cobia and spanish mackerel, and Reef Fish divisions will be paid to the heaviest single fish in those categories. Tie breakers in all divisions will be determined by the fork length of the angler’s longest fish for that particular division, then girth, then a coin flip.
15. In the event no fish are caught in one, two or all of the categories; the amount collected will be donated to the Boy Scouts of America.
16. Fish must be caught the day of the tournament. The weigh master will inspect all fish. Fish suspected of not being fresh caught that day will be disqualified. The weigh master has final say on all inspections. Cheaters will be Flogged, and Smacked with a Mack!
17. Angler check in will be available starting at 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Friday August 2nd. We will brief participants at tournament check in. You will need to leave us with a general description of your intended fishing area. Once checked in, you may proceed to your fishing destination, however, fish must be caught the day of the event.

19. Safety: All participants MUST HAVE PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICES (PFD’s) ON AT ALL TIMES WHILE IN YOUR KAYAK. Each group must have at least 1 VHF radio or cell phone. Cell phones are encouraged as back up, but there will be limited coverage south of the pavement on PINS if you choose to fish that area.
20. Go – No go of this tournament will be based off NWS forecasts. A pre-determination will be made 3 days prior, and posted on www.bluewaterkayakclassic.com and www.texaskayakfisherman.com under the BTB Forum, and on Corpusfishing.com under the general saltwater forum. A final decision if conditions change will be made the day prior to tournament.
