I remember when DPham posted on TKF about the creation of this site. At that time, I was pretty set that I would never be an AI owner. About the same time, I was in the market for a new yak. I ended up with the adventure, and have loved it. Well, after a season on that hull, and being Blown (literally) off the water by high winds for most of the second half of the year, i softened to the idea of a sail yak. Long story short, I put in the order for the conversion kit, and will begin the operation at the start of 2014.
Soon to be New AI owner but not new to the kayak fishing game. Im excited about increasing range and mobility for this coming season. AND, I cant wait for that first free ride home after a long day fishing...that SE wind will finally be a blessing. Im in Austin, thus the "hookdem" and normally fish offshore out of Corpus, inshore out of POC. Looking forward to sailing!
Cheers to going further and faster!

Welcome to the AI world hookdem! Hope to get a chance to sail and fish with you next year. You've got some great sailing opportunities in and around Austin with Lake Travis and Canyon Lake. I'll make my way there a few times a year just for sailing.

Night Wing,
I wish you lived closer to SA also, l bet you could school me on a thing or two.. Its funny I almost sold the TI twice, but everytime I would start cleaning it up to sell I would change my mind.... lol... Its such a great kayak and a blast to cruise around, but it is a pain in the neck to store and move around!

Night Wing, Its such a great kayak and a blast to cruise around, but it is a pain in the neck to store and move around! I don't own an AI or TI because of the reasons you mentioned. If I lived right on the coast, I would own one of the two since it's the perfect offshore kayak for traveling long distances to offshore rigs. So in the end, I go about 1000 yards offshore from the beach in my trusty old SPTW to fish for spanish mackerel which is my favorite offshore fish to target.

I have never been even a 1000yds off the coast in a kayak, lol... my TI has never even been in saltwater..... That will change this year though I plan to compete in the offshore tournament at PINS weather permitting..... my worst fear getting sea sick 2nd to that sharks!!! Haha

I don't get sea sick no matter how big the waves get. In a nice up and down swell, I get "sleepy".
As for sharks, I don't do shark fishing anymore. I had a "not so pleasant" experience with a 7' or longer bull shark that started to bump the bottom of my kayak. Three small bumps and the fourth bump was pretty hard since it lifted the bow part of my kayak (with me in it) about 6" out of the water. This shark wasn't hooked, but it was very curious in my kayak. Bull sharks are unpredictable so I immediately paddled out of the area.
If I find a bull shark now cruising on the surface with it's dorsal fin exposed where I can see the distinct shape of it's head to confirm it is a bull shark or see it below me in gin clear water with it's wide width, I paddle out of the area.
Most of the time, I stay just beyond the surf zone where I can fish for pompano or paddle out farther looking for a bait ball of finger mullet where I hope to find some spanish mackerel targeting the ball. If I can find an old abandoned pier or pier pilings, I fish for surf run flounder.
The above mentioned fish are what I target from my SPTW which I bought new in 2004.
SPTW: Scupper Pro TW which was manufactured by Ocean Kayak and has been discontinued and no longer made. It's 14' 9" long, 26" wide, weighs 55 pounds with a 7 1/4" seat depth so it feels like a sit inside kayak, but it is a sit on top model so getting broadside to a large wave, I never get the feeling the wave will toss me overboard.

Armada: thanks for the invite, same is true if you're ever in austin. I live by Travis.
Night Wing: I remember you from TKF. I even remember that we have the same favorite fish that we target, flounder and smack! Good to see you're still at it on the sptw, had my buddies sptw in my garage for the last 5years and used it in big surf days for the same reasons you do. Just sold it last summer.

hookdem,
I'm still a member on TKF. I just no longer post public messages on TKF since I've relegated myself to being a lurker on there now. The last time I posted a public message on TKF was 3 years ago in February of 2011. I check in on TKF every 2 to 3 days to see if I have any private messages and if I do, then I answer them via another private message.

I gotcha Nightwing. I've dropped in and out for years at a time myself. We're from the old crowd now, I guess. I was formally "motoryak" up until 2012, and "Santiago's pal" back in the 2000-2004 era.
Well, good to see old handles from the old days.
